Abstract
The Pionus Breeders Association has just
set up a Stud Book for each of the Pionus
species. This is being done to enable
breeders to know where their breeding
stock came from and to make sure that we
are keeping a clean gene pool. Some of the
Pion us species are in great need of protection
in the wild and further we need to
have captive breeding populations set up
now. Toward that end we are, at this time,
asking all owners of the Pion us species to
please answer the following questions
about their bird or birds and forward that
information to The Pionus Breeders
Association for tabulation . It is only a matter
of time before all bird species are in dire
need of captive breeding programs due to
the loss of rain forest in the home countries
of each species.
