Abstract

Dear Sirs:
I recently became a member of A.F .A.
at the convention in Long Beach. I own
a Swainson's Blue Mountain Lorikeet
and have been trying to purchase another
bird but have been unable to do so.
Do you have the names and addresses
of any breeders of Swainson's Blue
Mountain Lorkeets?
I would appreciate any help you can
give me.
Thank you,
Mrs. Patrice M. Wolfer
Redding, California
The best way to find a mate for your
Blue Mountain Lorikeet is to place a
wanted ad in the "Watchbird" and other
avicultural journals. Thousands of bird
breeders will know what you want and
can contact you if they have a bird available.
You might also contact some of the
quarantine stations as a number of !aries
have been imported recently.
Swainson 's Blue Mountain Lorikeet
(or Lory) is an ambiguous bird. It is also
called Rainbow Lory. Under Rainbow
Lory Forshaw lists twenty-one subspecies
all of which are rather similar and will
interbreed. The bird most commonly
called Swainson 's is Trichoglossus haematodus
moluccanus, but you could actually
have one of several others. Good luck in
pairing up your Lory.
