In terms of regulation and the scientific disciplines, the scientific infrastructure for the modern world needs innovation. The need for science-based regulation is urgently needed to enable regulators to systematically review the vast scientific data, extract and analyze the most useful information, and develop best practices. Included in the current issue of Journal of Regulatory Science, practices in medicine regulatory agencies and environment polices are discussed. It is not the intent for this current issue of JRS to present or recommend the best science or practices; it is our intent to bring the topics into discussion.
