Abstract

Coral reefs protect the coast from erosion and flood hazards through breaking of energetic waves offshore. The enhanced circulation, generated through wave breaking and setup, sustains a diversity of marine life in the sheltered near-shore environment. We present a combined field and numerical study to investigate the complex physical processes over fringing reefs.
