Abstract

"Outdoor-based experiential training has become a popular technique for training managers by directly involving them in the learning process. They offer training in a setting which is fresh, motivating and appear to be very effective in eliminating many of the role conflicts often found in the work setting. But, do the skills learned in the outdoors actually transfer to the work setting. This paper discusses a new concept, virtual reality activities, which has been found effective to improve the effectiveness of transferring outdoor-based training to the work setting. While not for all organizations, virtual reality activities recreate the participant’s own work environment in a developmental setting. Examples and guidelines should allow the reader to evaluate the potential effectiveness of this type of training for their own organizations. "
