Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.
Author Guidelines
- The Texas Water Journal only accepts electronic submissions.
- All manuscripts must be double-spaced with one-inch margins.
- All manuscripts should include an abstract of no more than 200 words. Do not include abbreviations, diagrams or references to the text within the abstract.
- Authors should provide three to five keywords for each article.
- TWJ accepts the following types of articles:
- General Research or Issues: 10,000 words
- Policy Reviews or Essays: 3,500 words
- Forum: 2,200 words
- Research, Policy or Legal Note: 1,500 words
- Word limits include references, footnotes or endnotes, tables and figures but do not include the abstract
- The Texas Water Journal is amenable to longer articles. Please contact the Editors to discuss.
- All articles should include a title page with the full names of the authors and their affiliations. If there are multiple authors, identify the primary author to whom all electronic correspondence and proofs should be sent.
- All tables and figures should be included at the end of the document, do not embed them in the text. Separate image files of photos and figures should also be submitted in jpeg or pdf format. Each table and figure should have a title located above the item. The caption should be separate from the table or figure and submitted in text format.
- Figures and Tables should be mentioned in sequential order in the text.
- Use a legible font such as Times New Roman 12 pt.
- Indent paragraphs ½ inch.
- Headings should be left justified with a single space between the heading and subsequent text. Headings should be numbered as follows:

Heading - Any number less than 10 should be spelled out, unless paired with a mathematical symbol.
- References: The Texas Water Journal employees the Council of Science Editors (CSE) style formats. Blue Book will also be accepted. These should be consulted for style, format and word usage.
- The Editors of the Texas Water Journal discourage the use of acronyms.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
- When available, the URLs to access references online are provided, including those for open access versions of the reference. The URLs are ready to click (that is, http://pkp.sfu.ca).
- The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all photos, figures, and tables are placed at the end. Photos and figures should also be submitted as separate supplementary files in jpeg or pdf format.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:
1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgment of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgment of its initial publication in this journal.

The Texas Water Journal is an online, peer-reviewed journal devoted to the timely consideration of Texas water resources management and policy issues from a multidisciplinary perspective that integrates science, engineering, law, planning, and other disciplines. It also provides updates on key state legislation and policy changes by Texas administrative agencies.
