Abstract

A numerical method is developed to analyze the dynamic responses of large-scale floating structures to waves. A boundary element method is applied to evaluate the fluid motion and a finite element method to analyze the response of structure. The BEM and FEM are combined to solve the wave-structure interaction problem by satisfying the continuity of the pressure and displacement on the fluid-structure interface. The unknown timedependent boundary conditions on the free surface and the interface are evaluated by a time-stepping procedure, which gives a time domain solution. An implicit scheme ensures the calculation precision.
