Abstract

Effect of permeability on pressure distribution over the permeable surface of a porous medium is investigated. Measured pressure distributions comparing impervious and permeable cases are presented. Flow of the free fluid over the permeable boundary and flow of the fluid in the porous medium are computed numerically, maintaining the interaction of the two flow fields through the boundary conditions at the permeable surface. Turbulence is modeled by a low Reynolds number k-e model including a novel technique to model surface roughness effect eliminating the need for wall functions.
