METHOD FOR ARTIFICIAL BEACH NOURISHMENT

Abstract


For a good design, the purpose of the nourishment has to be clearly defined. In general, there are three reasons for beach nourishment: 1. combatting coastal erosion (chronic erosion) 2. preventing flooding (safety) 3. maintaining a wide recreational beach. In the Netherlands a political decision has been made to maintain the coastline of 1990. Also, the required funds are available to do so. Thus the main purpose of nourishment in the Netherlands is to combat chronic erosion.
