Abstract

This article describes an assignment suitable for the composition classroom that leads students to consider the complicated relationship between verbal and visual communication.

Susanna Kelly Engbers, Ferris State University

Susanna Kelly Engbers, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of English at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, Grand Rapids, MI. She teaches courses in written rhetoric, visual rhetoric, and literature. Her current research interests include historical women’s rhetoric and the pedagogy of visual rhetoric. She has published articles in Rhetoric Society Quarterly, and Teaching English in the Two-Year College, as well as CEA Forum.
